Practical solutions…
On Camera Stabilizers
Now that you have a digital video camera, it’s time to start making accessories for it. One of the coolest is the steadicam, or camera stabilizer. You can buy one for $400-800+, or you can make one for about $30-100. More fun than a tripod or monopod, you can cruise around and shoot those gliding videos like a pro.
On Baking Bread
Homemade bread… There’s nothing quite like it! As usual, I start as a complete beginner and lead the reader through the wonder of new accomplishments.
On Soap-making
Want to try making real soap? Read about my soapmaking adventures and learn soaping from a beginner’s perspective.
On Christian Themes
Chrisitanity is widely despised today, possibly because it has largely devolved into religious entertainment, social function without power, tradition without benefit, and rules without mercy. Sometimes strong and loving words of rebuke are in order. In these articles I will seek to reestablish biblical doctrines that are being neglected.
Protestant Christian Doctrines: Rather than embark upon writing long tomes, I have recently (2010) located the some of the best scholarly books on Chrisitian doctrines and reformatted them using the latest emerging HTML5 and CSS standards. See the book list by clicking the ‘Classic Books’ menu item. For more info on the book project, see its About page.
On Web Design and Development
With iconoclastic zeal, we’ll toss out both tradition and fads and explore the practical. Beware! No false assumption is safe in this section. “Out with web-safe! Down with xhtml! Give me fluid layouts or give me death! Help stop DIV and LI abuse!” quoth the curmudgeon…
On Windows Stuff
Windows is a mess! The best way to keep it running is to maintain it properly. Update it, clean it up, defrag it, fix it, network it, and back it up. In one article, see how to remove about 2 gigs of unnecessary fluff from Windows. In another, how to set up a LAN and share your broadband around the house. Yet another one fixes that annoying blinking tooltip problem. The latest pair of articles explain why all should abandon IE6 and start using a standards-compliant web browser.
On Linux Stuff
Linux is ready for the desktop, and Ubuntu is on the cutting-edge. Are you ready for Linux? See my Linux articles and decide. Personally, I like it—the software is great, and the community concept is appealing. Gnu/Linux isn’t just free software, it’s software freedom. Several articles about installing Linux on USB sticks!
On Ham Radio Stuff
Dozens of my popular articles on ham radio, imported from my Athens A R C site. Build handy gadgets, experiment with antenna designs, learn emergency communications, get a license, talk around the world—with Morse, voice, teletype, digital radio modes, repeaters, satellites and more. It’s a great hobby, with something for everyone. Ham is to radio what Gnu/Linux is to software.
On More Stuff
When I can. Growing articles isn’t as easy as it looks…
